The skinny on Couric
Katie Couric appears "significantly thinner" in a network promo magazine photo because of some good airbrushing.
The "touched-up" photo of Couric dressed in a striped business suit appears on the inside of the September issue of Watch!, which is distributed at CBS and on American Airlines flights.
CBS News President Sean McManus said he was "obviously surprised and disappointed when I heard about it." The original was taken in May, and was widely circulated to the media as an official photo of Couric.
Couric, said she hadn't known about the digitally reworked version until she saw the issue. She said, "I liked the first picture better because there's more of me to love." But of course
Gil Schwartz, executive vice president of communications for CBS Corp., said the photo alteration was done by someone in the CBS photo department who "got a little zealous."

Braff just wants his cereal
Zach Braff says that all the rumors floating around about him clubbing and hitting on Jessica Simpson were all made up by the tabs.
He said on Letterman, "I've been learning a lot about myself from reading about all the stuff I've been up to, not based on any form of truth. I lead a pretty boring life - I sit at home, I'm on the Internet, I eat cereal - that's a typical night for me. I read online about all the places I've been out partying and all the women I've been out partying with. I'm like, 'Wow, I should probably go to that place. It sounds like a fun. It sounds like I had a good time there.' I'm kind of jealous of the life I'm supposedly leading."
"Here's how the whole thing works. I actually decided, 'Maybe I'll go out. It's the summertime, I'm off from Scrubs.' So I go out a little bit and they write all about me being this crazy party guy, like I'm Paris Hilton or something." What?
"I'm like the male Paris Hilton. So then I'm like, 'I don't like that. I don't like being in the tabloids, so I'm just going to stay home. I'm going to be a homebody, I'm going to write. A week later a tabloid comes out with - 'Zach Braff Will Not Leave His Home!' You can't win! I just gave up on it." Where is he reading this stuff?

"I had that Restylane stuff. It looked fake to me. I didn't like that. But... it went away in, like, four months. My lips are back to what they were. Thank God!"

Uhhh, honey? Dump his ass
Tom Cruise was allegedly fired by Paramount over previous criticism of Brooke Shields' use of post-natal anti-depressants.
Paramount boss Sumner Redstone's wife "was enraged" when she heard Cruise's comments on live TV, and warned her husband that Tom's Scientology-inspired tirade is revolting to female fans.
Insiders from Paramount's parent company Viacom claim Redstone's wife has great influence on the decisions of her husband. Viacom spokesman Carl Folta says, "It is true that Mrs. Redstone disagrees with Tom Cruise's views, but she and Mr. Redstone see every Paramount film."

Swank has a boyfriend
Hilary Swank has her own Vince Vaughn that has helped her get through the bad... Hollywood agent John Campisi.
Life & Style reports "the couple was spotted kissing and holding hands while taking in the romantic sights of Rome on August 27."
Campisi says his relationship with the actress is all about business and friendship-strictly platonic. A Hilary pal said, "Hilary cried on his shoulder when she and Chad split. He comforted her through that intensely difficult period." Campisi was Swank's date to the Academy Awards in March and apparently they have been together ever since.

Nick Lachey buys basketball team
Nick Lachey and pal A.J. DiScala are starting a basketball team. "The Hollywood Fame" will join the American Basketball Association in November.
"The Hollywood Fame" will launch its inaugural season this year with home games to be played at the Los Angeles Sports Arena. Player tryouts were held on Tuesday, with an additional September date planned to fill out the remaining spots on the team as well as those for official "Hollywood Fame" cheerleading positions.
Discala said, "We're excited about 'The Hollywood Fame' bringing highly skilled basketball players to the fans of Los Angeles. We are creating a unique family entertainment option at affordable prices."
Other "Fame" owners include Geoff Stults, Stacy Keibler, former NBA legend John Salley, former Major League baseball All-Star Brady Anderson, NFL quarterback Kyle Boller of the Baltimore Ravens and NASCAR's Brian Vickers.
The ABA will see more than 60 teams beginning play in November, including teams in the U.S., Mexico and Canada, the association says.

Word around town is J Simpson has "found love with fellow music star John Mayer." Simpson is in New York City trying promote her new album, but has been forced to cancel her appearances because she has laryngitis.
Apparently Mayer is also suffering from mono, I mean laryngitis, and was forced to cancel a concert on Saturday night in Connecticut, where he was headlining with Sheryl Crow.
Us Weekly says Simpson spoke to the magazine about the relationship, saying that Mayer was great and that she wanted to "keep it private." A spy confirms the relationship adding, "She's tiptoeing back into the dating world. It's the first stage. She's never been happier."

Correspondent tiger fight
A source told Star magazine in this week's issue that Nancy O'Dell and correspondent Maria Menounos simply "cannot stand each other."
"It’s a real catfight," the spy said. "They refuse to work together and hate being in the same room with each other. Makeup and hair staffers have to schedule the times far apart!"
The drama started when O'Dell complained that "Maria isn’t interested in being a journalist. She just wants to be a star," the source says. She said that Maria, a former actress, received special treatment, got more air time and was given extra days off to pursue working in films.
Maria thinks Nancy is simply jealous because Maria's "younger and prettier," the source says. As far as O'Dell? "She knows her high value and she’s tired of having to fight for her own show. There's interest in her from other shows and she feels the time may be right to pursue those options."

Ashlee Simpson started rehearsals for Chicago in a New York City studio on Monday. Chicago producer Barry Weissler confirmed the news, "Yes, it is true. Ashlee Simpson is joining the cast of Chicago in London. We are very excited and are looking forward to gauging the London audience reaction."
She will appear onstage in October in London's West End. According to a source, "Ashlee's a dancer; her background is in dance. She wants to do live theatre. This will put all of those critics to rest. She's always wanted to be on stage, but she got diverted when she started selling so many albums."

Lagerfeld speaks up
So what does Karl Lagerfeld think about Jessica Simpson's fashion sense? "Ecch, I'm not that impressed," he said. He went on to criticize the Olsen twins Mary-Kate and Ashley, saying, "They don't have a strong enough image. They still have to make the movie that everybody remembers."
He even commented on Pete Doherty, who he claims is "Gone. His music - the look - is over now. There's nothing to think about it. It is too late."

Springsteen on the sly
Bruce Springsteen has reportedly split from his wife of 20 years, Patti Scialfa, and started a new relationship with a 9/11 widow.
Springsteen and Scialfa have "separated in secret," after he fell for a redhead he met when he organized September 11th telethon. He sure does have a thing for those redheads. A source told the Post, "They're separated, but everyone has been sworn to secrecy. We're not supposed to talk about it."
Scialfa's mother Victoria said, "I don't know anything about it; I don't want to talk about it." A rep for the singer has refused to comment. Shhhh

We quit you first!
Tom Cruise's producing partner Paula Wagner "is furious with the treatment the pair have received from Paramount Pictures and insists they were the ones who turned their back on the studio after failing to reach an agreement regarding their contract." Here we go....
Wagner says, "We had ceased negotiations. I'm not sure why this happened. You need to respect your artists. I don't understand why this would be turned into a personal attack. Because that's what it is." Maybe because "personal" issues is the reason this whole thing went down
Wagner says they have raised funds to establish an independent production company.

Word is she will probably choose London. Blame her? Just what experience does she have? She has been a back-up dancer on Jessica's tour and had a role on 7th Heaven.

Survivor goes racial
On the new season of Survivor, the contestants will be divided into four tribes by ethnicity. That means blacks, whites, Latinos and Asians in separate groups. That's what I said.
Host Jeff Probst says the idea "actually came from the criticism that 'Survivor' was not ethnically diverse enough." He says the twist fits in perfectly with what "Survivor" does, saying the show is "a social experiment. And this is adding another layer to that experiment." Probst says contestants had mixed reactions to the racial divisions.
Hey! Maybe next season they can divide tribes by Muslim, Catholic and Jewish...good times
