Nicole Kidman goes sci-fi

Nicole Kidman will play the female lead in "Invasion", an updated version of the 1956 film "Invasion of the Body Snatchers." She will play a psychiatrist who tries to stop aliens from getting her son. The boy may be the only person who can put an end to the freaky INVASION.

The film will be overseen by "Matrix" producer Joel Silver along with Doug Davison and Roy Lee, who previously collaborated on the horror hit "The Grudge."

"It's incredibly exciting to have Nicole Kidman, one of the most gifted, versatile actresses in the world, starring in 'Invasion' with Oliver Hirschbiegel directing," Silver said in a statement." 'Invasion' gives Nicole an opportunity to bring her depth and range to the kind of gritty action role that we haven't see her play before, as Oliver infuses the film with the brand of provocative, character-driven storytelling he's known for."
