Why the Madonna adoption is on and off like a TV

The Human Rights Consultative Committee (HRCC) in Malawi, said they hope to halt Madonna's adoption of a 13-month old baby boy named David, for the moment. Apparently you can't just walk up, pick a child and take them home. I wonder why....

HRCC's chairman says the group wants to make sure Malawi's laws "are not bent" for the 48-year-old singer.

"The laws of Malawi are clear that if one wants to adopt a child one has to stay with the child for at least 18 months for assessment," he said. Sources say that someone is indeed bending the laws for Madonna.

The baby's biological father, Yohane Banda is illiterate. His cousin says that he doesn't understand a thing and that he was made to sign papers he didn't understand.

Banda's cousin said he thinks Madonna will raise his son and then bring him back to Malawi. "They don't understand that adoption means he is Madonna's child and will even change his name," he said.
